Certification Information

Certification offered by the American Payroll Association is a valuable, objective credential that verifies a specified level of knowledge, skills, and abilities in the payroll profession. Certification helps individuals demonstrate their payroll expertise, secure promotions, advance their careers, and enhance their standing within the profession.  The APA offers two levels of certification.

The Gateway Association of Payroll Professionals  (GAPP) currently offers two annual workshop for GAPP members only.  The purpose is to help candidates prepare for the Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) exams.  This workshop provides excellent preparation for those individuals taking the exam, those desiring a payroll refresher, or those interested in receiving Recertification Credit Hours (RCH's). The workshops are facilitated by chapter members (CPP's) who volunteer their time and expertise.  The workshops typically start in January (for the Spring testing window) and June (for the Fall testing window). Use the links at the top left to obtain more information about both levels of payroll certification.

Recertification Credit Hours (RCH's)

GAPP obtains approval from the APA for all RCH's that are offered through chapter events.  We issue the RCH certificates after each qualifying event. Maintaining records of your hours to be applied to recertification for both theFPC and CPP is important. If you lose any of the certificates issued by GAPP, itcan be difficult to research and provide duplicates.  We will make every effort to do so but cannot guarantee it will be done in a timely manner.
